Instructions Yalom’s The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy offers

Instructions

Yalom’s The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy offers a theoretical understanding of the way a group develops and functions. One of the criticisms of Yalom’s work is that it does not offer a “handbook” of how to conduct groups, but rather a theoretical understanding of group dynamics and group process.

During the next several weeks of this class, we will be focused on applying the theory of group practice while learning skills needed to conduct groups in practice. The film, Impact Therapy: Group Counseling — Essential Skills That Make Groups More Productive is the starting point for our class to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

After viewing the film Impact Therapy: Group Counseling — Essential Skills That Make Groups More Productive, please respond to the following questions:

What concerns you most about stepping into the role of a group therapist? What do you think you need the most support with to improve your competency as a group leader/therapist?

In your response to your classmates, please offer them an evidence-supported or peer-reviewed resource that offers them the support they are looking for.

Initial Post/Response Post:

Your initial Discussion Forum post should be at least 200-250 words in length and should use at least one resource other than the film as support for your ideas.
