Choose one of the motifs in the play: Money, Gardens, Mama’s plant, light, The furniture in the apartment, Africa, White people, Travis. Write a 800-1000 word paper in which you discuss how the repetition of the motif supports one or more of the themes of the play—themes such as the characters’ search for identity, the consequences of their dreams being deferred, and the source of their strength in the face of adversity. In the first paragraph of the paper write a thesis that asserts that the appearances of the motif or characters support a certain theme of the play, which theme you will spell out specifically in your thesis. In the body of the paper explain how each appearance of the motif relates to the struggles of the characters in the play.
